Questions about moving routes to device (Drive 52)

Hi, I'm using a Drive 52 with Basecamp. When I move a route to the device, it also moves all the associated waypoints with it. I don't want the waypoints clogging up the directory so I delete them all, and the route still functions as expected. Is there a way to stop the waypoints going over every time?

Also, when the route is moved to the device, all the waypoints within the route have a '1' added to the end of their name. This gets confusing when I already numbered them all in order, is there any way to stop this?

Many thanks.

  • Waypoints handling on the device is a frustrating process for me.  I have a zumo XT.  All waypoints end up in the 'Saved' list.  There is no way to avoid that.  It is how Garmin decided to handle them.  Here's what I can tell you.  If you transfer the route to the device using File > Export > Export selection then the waypoints are included in the route but they are not available to import in 'Saved'.  That is mute though considering they end up there anyways when the route is imported by the device, at least that is the way it works on the XT.

As for the '1' added to the end, I suspect that this is an indication of the same waypoint being imported twice requiring the device assign the second one a unique name, hence the '1' suffix.

FWIW, I routinely delete all waypoints from the 'Saved' list except my home waypoint.  We can thank Garmin for this PITA process.

  • Strange as I don't get that on my DS50 or DS51.  Are you sure you're just moving the route and not the folder containing it? How are you generating your 'waypoints' in BaseCamp?
