How come I can't paste an address from Google 41255 SD-38, Mitchell, SD 57301 to find a way point.

Trying to create way points and the search failes every time.

It moves me back to Mitchell

  • BaseCamp doesn't work that way. It searches for locations in it's map database, so less detail is generally better and then select from the list provided.

  • A better process from Google to Basecamp is to copy coordinates from google (easy using right click), and copy that using Find>Locate Coordinates.

Find address function is a subjective feature.  Google has just committed to refining it over time.

  • As pointed out above, address searches can be tricky.  Usually the issue is the street name, especially outside of city limits.  The same road can go by multiple names.  For example, a state road may also have a county road name or two state roads may share the same section of pavement for a ways.  In cities the issue is the designation of the abbreviation or non-abbreviation of things like East or E, St or Street.

In NA 2024.2 address searches seem to work differently.  For me, the best procedure is to type alt-ctrl-A to bring up the address search.  The entire address can be typed in the search box at the top (next to magnifying glass icon) and the search fields will be filled in.  If there are no results or no addresses with the street number, try altering the street name field.

If there are any search results, double clicking on one will move the map to that location.  Right clicking on a result will give you options to create a waypoint or several options related to routes.

In your case, SD-38 in a short stretch is also called E Havens, 254th St and Sd Highway 38.  The last would have found your location.

However, your address is for a camping/RV site which has a fair chance of being a Point of Interest.  Knowing this ahead of time, I would have avoided the Address Search and just searched "Mitchell, SD", to get to the right area, then "KOA" to see if it is a Point of Interest.
