Garmin models that don't work with BaseCamp

Unfortunately the "which GPS devices accept GPX files" discussion has been closed

To be clear, I presume this really means the newer units do not accept a GPX file?

Therefore files produced by Basecamp, Tyre or any other route planning software cannot be used on the new units?

  • There are two questions:

    1. Models that don't work with BaseCamp.
    2. Models that don't take GPX (or other file types).

The answer to either of these depends on the type/class of model being used.

    • All of the Edge units can take GPX or other files but they have to be "track" files (they can't use "route" GPX files).
    • I'm pretty sure all of the hiking units can take GPX files.
    • I'm pretty sure all of the fancier watches can take GPX files.

Working with BaseCamp is less of a concern than accepting files (since you can export the file from BaseCamp and copy it to the device).

Since BaseCamp isn't really being updated, it's possible that it might not directly support newer units.

  • However, the question remains open for other models:

If I want to buy a Garmin, where do I have to look at a favorite model to find out for sure whether and which data (favorites, tracks, routes,...) this model accepts from BaseCamp?

My Navigator 5 works perfectly with BaseCamp. But now I need a device with vehicle-specific navigation for my motorhome.

Garmin has a list, but it's obviously not complete: https://support.garmin.com/de-DE/?faq=OTC4DbqwPt33jPUxBWrQQ6. I had the RV-BBT600, which took favorites but no routes from my BaseCamp collection, so I sold again.

    For example, OVERLANDER:

How can I find out before making a purchase whether I can use which data (favorites, routes, tracks) I can use with this device that I have already collected or created with BaseCamp?

  • Overlander uses Explore. Best to ask at www.zumouserforums.co.uk/ as they cover all motorcycling devices and not just Zumos, so you may get help with Overlander there
