Garmin 2595 When loading BC Route to Device it brings in extra old way points to the device that are from other routes which are not in BC or on the Device

Need Help Guys, I've been successfully making custom Routes for many years with my Garmin LMT2595 GPS, After some Software updates it appears I now have issues.  Using  Windows 11.1 OS PC, Garmin BaseCamp (BC) Version 4.7.5, Map: 2015.30,

Symptom:  With the Device clear of ALL Routes and Way points (WP), and BC clear of all routes and WPs except for the route to be loaded to the device (also Tried several old routes that worked great in the past) When I load the route from BC to the Devices External Memory Card (8GB Micro) via BC, then disconnect the Device from BC and now power up the device to check the route install, the device Trip Planner looks correct but the saved WPs is flooded with many many extra WPs from old routes that are not on the device Nor are they on BC.  These extra WPs were from older maps I made in the past.  How are they getting on the device?.     I tried everything, I've learned alot over the years with this unit and its' quirks, looks to me like there is a corrupted file on the device that is somehow combining some of the internal history or user data that you can Not clear via device buttons.   appreciate any help

Additional Note:I have 2 LapTops, 2 cables and 2 Garmin 2595s with different maps and BC versions that were working great until the update and now I'm having the issues on both LapTops and Devices   Both devices appear corrupted    The devices never gave me this trouble until the recent upgrade to the device and BC

  • Yes SUSS, I've been doing it successfully for several years 3 times a week,  I delete all files from the External Memory card using BC first, then disconnect device from BC and power up the device and delete Trip Planner and save and recent places, then reconnect to BC, next I delete all GPX files in the device internal memory on PC which I normally have not had to ever do, then while still connected to PC using BC load route from BC to device, then eject device and view the route installed on the device in trip planner and the WPs in the Saved location

  • Suspect by now that should do it but for sake of clarity, to completely clear a device you need to delete all .gpx files from the device, then boot the device and use the menus to delete any saved places. The reason for this is that current.gpx is simply a one way copy of what is in inaccessible internal memory so data there can only be deleted using the menus. On boot though your device looks for other .gpx files, merges their data with the internal memory data and rewrites a new current.gpx

If your device is really empty then the only way saved places can be appearing is by you sending them from BaseCamp, so how are you creating your routes and how are you sending them to your nuvi?

  • While connected to BC, I Just deleted the current gpx file from the device internal memory via the PC, then on BC I checked the External memory card found nothing there, then also on BC I check the internal storage empty at well, ejected the device, powered the device up and found the trip planner empty, and the saved WPs empty as well as we would expect, powered down the device, connected to BC and the device internal memory on the PC shows 1 Current GPX file again, Are you saying it should still be empty and this the the source of the trouble?

  • How I create routes is open a new list then manually insert way points in the list from start to finish, then create a route using these WPs or I may duplicate a preexisting route modify it then re-title it with a different name, or may only use part of that route again re-title with a different name

I described above in my opening post the details to get the route into the device and also noted that only one desired route was in BC with its' associated WPs and the device is completely empty

    REF:

With the Device clear of ALL Routes and Way points (WP), and BC clear of all routes and WPs except for the route to be loaded to the device, Using BC I drag and drop the desired route to the Devices External Memory Card (8GB Micro) via BC, then disconnect the Device from BC and now power up the device to check the route install, the device Trip Planner looks correct but the saved WPs is flooded with many many extra WPs from old routes that were not on the device Nor were they on BC prior to loading the route into the device..  These extra WPs were from older maps I made in the past which are no longer on BC.  How are they getting on the device?.

  • Some info I found here, I also tried the deleting the trips folder and creating a new one, and erasing the user data which neither fixed the problem.   This is a tuffy

  • Are there any known compatibility issues with the versions of maps installed, BC versions and Device SW Update Versions?  Can I go back to versions I know work?

  • There will always be a current.gpx, as I explained above that is always created on boot up if you delete it. Your problem really is a head scratcher, since if your device is truly empty the only way additional waypoints can then get to your device is if you are somehow sending them from BaseCamp.

Can I suggest one more attempt to ensure your device is clear. First using Windows Explorer check for any .gpx files anywhere on your device or the installed card. Delete all you find.  Go to Apps, Trip Planner and delete any trips. Now boot your device. Look in Saved places. Delete any points there. Reboot your device and check Saved places is empty.

Connect your now empty device to BaseCamp. Verify that BC doesn't see any waypoints or other data on your device or card.

Now send a route. Rather than drag/drop right click the route and select Send to and select either your device or card. Are you still getting additional waypoints? If so the only other thing I can suggest is a master reset of your device in case there is somehow a corruption on it that is causing this issue, which in the past has always been resolved by the actions I've described above.

  • I tried all that, even the send to, no luck but here something:

If I remove all lists and files from BC and clear all the Device trip Planner routes and saved WP files, remove all .gpx files from the device, clear the user data, do a Device Reset, then import an old list gpx file from my Laptop Hard Drive to BC and then try to copy the route to the device I still get the same failure BUT if I clear the Device and BC, and then create a brand new route from scratch on BC, then duplicate the route modify it so now I have 2 different routes and label them differently, then load them both into the device everything works perfectly, ALSO if I save them to my hard drive, delete them from BC, then retrieve them from my hard drive into BC, and copy them onto the device, It still works perfectly. Additionally if I make multiple modified duplicates keep some in the same list and move some to other new created lists then save them to my hard drive then delete them from BC, then retrieve them from my Hard drive into BC and copy to the device, again still works perfectly.

So it appears the failure has something to do with old routes created in the past that were saved to my hard drives can no longer be used on 2 of my laptops even with different versions of BC and different map versions on the 2 devices.   So is something in both Devices corrupted, if so what is it?   There is no way to uninstall everything in the device and reinstall new, there is just updates   I need a wizard to figure this one out, any ideas guys?

Some additional Info used to Trouble shoot this, again I have 2 LapTops and 2 Devices, one device for the dirt and one for the street, getting the same failure on either laptop on both devices, Garmin LMT2595, Everything was good up to June 2023 then Failure symptom surfaced ~ 7/7 or 7/8/23, after I duplicated and modified an old Route created in 2020

  • Well it looks like the fault is with those .gpx files then.  Are you able to post one of those routes here so I can look at the file as it would seem that not only does it contain a route but also a series of waypoints, I often send a .gpx file to my device containing multiple routes and waypoints.
