BaseCamp scrolling and zooming question

Can you help me with a screen scrolling question? When I first start creating a route I can scroll around the screen easily with the arrow keys on the keyboard. I can also zoom in and out with the plus and minus keys. However, once I click off the map to another command, etc, those functions are gone. Now I have to scroll and zoom using the compass wheel on the map which involves many single individual clicks and is much slower. Is there a way to return to the first method of scrolling and zooming? Thanks!

  • Changing tools (like Hand, New Waypoint, Insert, Move) should not affect the functionality of the arrows or +/- keys.  What DOES affect then is when you click off the map onto either of the list panes to the left.  When you do that the map looses focus.  A habit to get into is, when returning to the map, select the Hand tool and then click on the map to give if focus.  The keys will be working again.  Be sure to select that hand tool when returning to the map pane because if the New Waypoint tool is active it will create a waypoint when you click on the map to give it focus.

  • I will definitely give it a try.  Thank you so much!

  • An alternative would be to have the Map Tools on the tool bar.  Clicking on the Square icon will change the focus to the map without changing the selected tool and also with no need to click on the map.  (There is a light blue edge around the map when it has the focus.)
