How To Delete Old Data from Basecamp & RV890

Software, GPS device, and computer:

Basecamp 4.7.5 / Garmin RV890 / Windows10

I created a complete roundtrip using RV Trip Wizard and exported a GPX file. However, old data/trips kept showing up in Basecamp confusing the GPS (and me) as to what trip should be available. I discovered you can clear old data showing up in Basecamp when the GPS is connected by the following steps.

  1. Update maps and system on the GPS device
  2. Clear Trip History/Travel History on GPS, then turn it OFF
  3. Open Basecamp and turn the GPS back ON
  4. Delete any List Folder for the GPS in the My Collection section of Basecamp
  5. Select the Unlisted Data folder in Basecamp
  6. Delete all data that appears in Unlisted Data section
  7. Create a new List Folder under My Collection
  8. Import the GPX file into the new List Folder (my GPX file was created with RV Trip Wizard)
  9. The trip will now appear in Basecamp (unfortunately in scrambled order, and no way to sort it; no worries at this point)
  10. Send (upload) the new trip to your GPS device
  11. Power the GPS OFF again.
  12. Power the GPS ON.

The new imported trip should now appear in Trip Planner / Saved Trips, still scrambled, but accessible from your starting point, an progressing to subsequent stops automatically. The old data should now be gone and the GPS working as it should.

Yes, a bit convoluted but it worked for me! Good luck!
