Where's the Mexico Detail? City Navigator North America NT 2024.1

Just bought a Drive 52 and updated everything. There's only a handful of major highways in Mexico. Do I have to unlock that detail somehow? There doesn't appear to be a separate Mexico map available for purchase from Garmin and their description of the North America NT map says

"...highways, interstates, and business and residential roads in metropolitan and rural areas in the U.S. and outlying areas, specifically:

  • Canada
  • Mexico
  • Puerto Rico
  • etc.

Leaning towards returning this unless I can get the Mexico (Specifically Baja CA) details on this map.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • If you're viewing the maps on your device in BaseCamp the NA map is so large now its spilt in two, just like the EU map has been for years. As BaseCamp can only display one map at a time you appear to have the other NA map selected and not the one containing the Mexico detail. Select the other map and all should be good.

You should also use Express to install the map to your PC. That will be installed as one complete map.

  • thanks!! I was viewing the map on the device and on BaseCamp. They were the same map. I ended up buying another map from Garmin for $100 that says it includes all of North America. I can now see Mexico detail on the device but not on BaseCamp. Using Garmin Express to “install map” only installs the US/Canada map that came with the device but not my newly purchased “north America” map. So how, do I get that map in BaseCamp?

  • Well there are 2 issues here. First, if your original map didn't show Mexico detail on your device it didn't come pre-installed with the full NA map, Garmin provide various map options for North America and not all include Mexico, so you've really bought a device with the wrong map. If that's the case you'd have been better returning it and getting one with the full NA map. The different options are shown here, which one did you get with your device?

Second, the map you've bought cannot be installed by Express to your PC for BaseCamp to use, no additional map can be. You should though be able to view that map in BaseCamp when your device is connected. It can take a while for it to be available as it needs to be indexed by BaseCamp on first use. You should see a green bar moving slowly under the map where it's listed under your device in the left hand pane. You can also copy the map file to a removable drive, either physical or virtual, which would enable BaseCamp to use it without your device connected.

  • I have a Zumo XT with the CN NA NT 2024.1 map installed.  That map has been installed to my PC for use with BaseCamp.  One thing I notice about the Baja area when viewing it in BaseCamp is that you either must zoom in a lot or you must set the map detail level to "Highest" to see any detail.

Also, CN NA NT 2024.1 is installed as two maps on the XT, "All US" and "All Canada and Mexico".  These maps are visible in Settings > myMaps.  Each can be disabled.  I don't know anything about the Drive 52 but this is worth checking if it has a similar option.

  • So it looks like I bought the Drive 52 with US and Canada pre-installed. That was $100. Then the mexico map was another $100. I cant seem to find a device that comes with the full US map. Can you recommend a product on Amazon that comes with the Mexico portion as default?

thanks for the info on BaseCamp. I’ll try that out.

  • Thanks, I’ll check that out!

  • AFAIK, the City Navigator North America NT map includes all of U.S, Canada, and Mexico.  I would be surprised if there are different CN NA NT maps for different devices but Garmin often surprises me.

  • Just look for one that has the full NA map.  Hopefully you can get a refund on what you've already bought.

  • That's what I thought as well and why I bought this thing. Here's what my maps look like now with the factory stock map and the one I bought (no idea why it shows up twice on the SD card). Either way, no matter what map I select, with map detail set to highest, none of these maps provide any road detail for Mexico in BaseCamp. But, on the device, I see the Mexico detail.

Is it weird that the maps all have the same name? Are they the same map?

  • UPDATE: I spoke with Garmin support and they were very helpful. They are overnighting me a replacement Drive 52 with the North America map that I had to buy separately. They are refunding me the map that I purchased, and I'll be returning the device I bought to Amazon. So it all worked out in the end. I suppose I found out the hard way but you can buy the same device from different vendors and it may or may not come with the maps you want. Good times.

For the BaseCamp glitch, I deleted the C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps folder, re-launched BaseCamp and now, when I select the map that's on the SD card, I can see the Mexico detail.

Thanks to everyone in this forum for their assistance.
