Basecamp Issue - Error when connecting [Basecamp 4.7.4 - Fenix 7X Solar 11.28]

Hi,

I have just connected my Fenix 7X Solar (11.28) to PC.

When i open Basecamp 4.7.4, i got this message:

Then i see this map loading (in red):

but it not appears in the list.

EDIT:

while the red bar progress, it says:

Maps list results:

Now i can't upload or download anything using Basecamp.

What happened?

How can i solve?

Previuos in February, last time i connected my Fenix 7x Solar (last 10.x firmware) i had no issues.

Thanks a lot for helping me.

UPDATE 1:

  • Contacted support (name L*).
  • He said delete gmap files then express will restore them.
  • I deleted it AND EXPRESS NOT REINSTALLED IT.
  • L* not send me a recover copy of the file that he told me to delete.
  • (Knowing how poor support is, i moved to desktop and no deleted them. so i restored them in the phone)
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Basecamp. Problem persist

UPDATE 2:

  • Contacted support (Steven).
  • They can't send the map file.
  • So: Garmin put a basemap in a watch and there is nothing to recover.
  • Express not reinstall it, support not send it.

  • but it not appears in the list.

Because it is the worldwide base map and not a region map used for navigation, it's there on every Fenix and alikes same as gmaptz.img which is for time zone.

Sure you saw the map loading and not inspecting (or however it's called when basecamp checks a map file)? B/o it should have been on your system before and hasn't been change since Jan 25th 2021 and hasn't with this 11.28 release either as far as I remember.

So Basecamp seemed to have made at least kind of of a connection as indicated in the message.

Probably you tried more than one time and tried to reboot and reconnect already?

Let's hope, that this isn't an issue of basecamp being no longer compatible to the fenix software.

If no one else is faster than me I'll try as soon as my battery is in one digit percentage - a little more than a week to go with this charge and I don't like to interfere with a full charging cycle.

  • How can i solve?

    You should contact Garmin Support

  • I can't see the worldwide base map in the fenix map list too.

In the maps list in the watch i have:

    - outdoor+ maps

    - topoactive+

    - 3 courseview maps

    - my 3 custom maps

I tried reconnecting but nothing solved.

  • No of course not. Neither the worldwide base map - which provides essentailly the basic grid for all other "real" maps nor the gmaptz or the map for the DEM (D4713070A) are to be seen in the map manager since while those are neccessary base maps those are not maps in the common sense for navigation itself. Those are comprising the basic framework for all other maps. As far as I remember those "vanish" from the maplist after being scanned by basecamp for the same reason - as soon as basecamp has them indentified for what they are it surpresses them, since those are not to be deleted or to changed.

  • can you upload somewhere the gmapbmap.img file?

  • Just connect your device to your PC as before and open it with the file browser instead of basecamp, there you find it in the /Garmin folder. But you really don't have to worry about it - except if you deleted it. You didn't do that did you?

  • i suppose my file got corrupted in some way.

    while the red bar progress, it appears;

    Here thay say so:

    https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mac-windows-software/f/basecamp-windows/68807/basecamp-reading-charts-aborted

so, can you upload your file somewhere, so i can try to overwite mine and see if it works?

  • Not at the moment, you may send me a cloud space where I can upload it. When I hook up the next time to my PC I'd download it.

However I'll do that not until my T7 reaches low one digit battery percentage. I'm in the first charge/discharge cycle after a factory reset and thus don't want to interfere with the battery manager by charging early somwhere in between.

I can post the screenshot I did for reference last September with all the maps in the /Garmin - not sure wether the gmapbmap changed inbetween, thats was for having the names of all standart maps only but you may see the size and date of those files.

  • : is there any indication that Basecamp is not working with 11.28 or even corrupts the base map of the device? In which case I would not try to corrupt mine as well but rather wait for a new basecamp version. ;-)

  •  can you have a look?

    Support is not helping me.

    i'm not alone:
