Route / map looks wider in Basecamp then komoot or google maps

Can't access your link but if BaseCamp is showing a larger area you ought to direct your question to the other sites you mention.

The gpx is not really relevant. On the 4 pictures the same gpx is shown; same start and finish location. It's clear that basecamp shows a different picture so i'd rather think basecamp does something different than 3 other applications. Maybe it's just a setting ore something, but i cannot find it.

It might be due to a map datum issue? What map datum is selected in BC > Edit > Options  > Measurement  > Position:  Grid/ and Datum?

Source of waypoints is https://retkikartta.fi/?lang=en&id=868 (planning a route in finland). I make waypoints maunally in Basecamp and copy the coordinates from retkikartta waypoints.

Thanks for posting the images. It doesn't look like a Datum issue in BC. ETRS89 datum is not quite identical to WGS84 but the difference is only about half a metre, so not significant for hiking.

Does the route look the same shape if you view it in BC using the Garmin Global Map?

It might be worth trying a different OSM map e.g. from Freizeitkarte https://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/garmin/en/regions.html to exclude a alternativaslibres map error.

Could you post your GPX track? I have a map of Finland on BC and would be interested to see if the track plot in BC looks the same or matches the app.

To my eyes it looks like a perspective issue.  In BaseCamp you are viewing at an angle vs straiight down in the other maps.  Check to see if you have accidently switched to the 3D view in BaseCamp.  View menu > Map Views or if you have themap  view toolbar visible make sure you select the square icon and not the cube icon.

I suppose it is possible that BaseCamp is using a different projectioin (e.g. Mercator vs. Lambert Conformal Conic).  But in any case, you can rest assured that the Waypoints are being placed at the proper location on each map.

Maps that span a large area are often distorted in BaseCamp; this is clearly visible at the north and south bounds of the map. In the center there is no visible distortion. You can set a custom projection with JaVaWa GMTK; in this case I would use a setting of 68 degrees.

(You can also set the projection angle with Garmin MapSource, using the 'hidden' command Ctrl-Alt-A)

I've put a zip-file on my website with 3 gpx's:

• Route in 6 parts with waypoints
• Route in basecamp route format (no waypoints)
• Track in basemap format (no waypoints)

I'll try the maps from freizeitkart.

I know there are different projections, but i didn't realise that it would have consequences at such small area.

The presentation is in 2D.

I never worried about the coordinate-system; glad i always found the expected huts/places at the right coordinates :-D
