maps menu items when GPS connected and disconnected

Hi guys

When my Zümo is disconnected, in the "Maps" menu of Basecamp  I see the items/maps shown in the screenshot below (on the left). This make sense. I have installed the City Navigator Europe NTU map on the PC using Garmin Express's Map options -> "install to Computer" method and I have installed the freizeitkarte FRA+ using the Windows installer provided by this (great) community

Once this was done, I used Basecamp Maps -> Install Maps (ie MapInstall) to install the Freizeitkarte FRA+ map on my device (Zümo XT). I was surprised to see MapInstall having to update the City Navigator Europe NTU in addition to the FRA+ map in the GPS but that is another story and not the question (maybe it is)

After MapInstall did its thing, I have the following items in the Maps menu of Basecamp. (on the right in the screenshot below)

And here are the questions regarding the Maps menu when the GPS is connected

1) Why do I have a pair of parenthesis at the end of "City Navigator Europe NTU 2023.2 ()". I guess it means basecamp recognizes that the map on the computer and the map on the GPS are the same but I am not sure

2) If my assumption above is correct, why is there no set of parenthesis at the end of Frezeitkarte_FRA+ ?

3) When I look at the GPS (Settings, My Maps) I don;t see the City Navigator NTU map anymore, rather I see what is shown in the last screenshot (22.12 ES-Valladolid etc...) (and yes I have scrolled up and down, City Navigator NTU Europe cannot be seen in the GPS)

Thank you.

  • The issue here is you've allowed BaseCamp/MapInstall to install the CN map to your device.  To correct it you need to uninstall the CN map that it installed from your device. Note your original CN Europe is showing on your device, that is what the maps ALL North and ALL South are.

Edit: having reread your post I'm not convinced that MapInstall did add another version of the CN map as you state, the top map in your final screenshot is surely your Frezeitkarte map?

  • I believe your second assumption is the good one, the "22.12 Es-Valladolid ..."map  is probably the Freizeitkarte. When copying the gmapsupp.img file directly on the SD card which is the method I used in the past, the map is seen with a different name (freizeitkarte_FRA+ + release date)

The reason why i tried a new method (Freizeitkarte windows installer for Basecamp, then mapinstall) is that I was trying to address the Basecamp crash that happens EVENTUALLY when using the search tool in basecamp.

I don;t have the crash anymore ebut it's only been a few days yet.

Thank you so much for your help!
