trying to open a gpx file and get a dialog box saying Modify Setup with an uninstall or close option

I am using Win10 22H2 Home and can not duplicate the problem.  With Basecamp open, double-click on a .gpx file in my Downloads directory to import it into Basecamp.  I can also right=click and select Open with > Basecamp application.

Perhaps the file is corrupted.  What happens when you attempt to import it from within Basecamp?

Just to be clear, Basecamp will not open a .gpx file for you to view.  It only imports it to its My Collections list or to a specified folder when using its import function.

I can import the file into Basecamp without a problem.

If I right click the gpx file and other gpx files in the download folder I also get the option to open with, but if I choose Basecamp as my option I will then get the dialogue box with Modify Setup.

I never used to have this problem, it's like the open with is now associated with a Garmin uninstall application.

Then reassociate it with BaseCamp www.digitaltrends.com/.../

If only it was that easy.

I've tried that a couple of times, I've even tried reinstalling Basecamp but I keep getting the same dialogue box.

There must be something else that I'm missing or need to try, but I appreciate the suggestion.

What's your version of Windows?

In Windows 10 you can try right clicking on the file and choose properties.  Under the general tab you should see the File Name, Type of File and Opens With at the top.  This should show you what application, if any is associated with that file type.  The Change button should allow you to change the file association.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've tried without success. I've also tried downloading another app that works with gpx files then associating the new app with gpx files and then after they've opened the files I've closed everything down and then re- associated Basecamp with the gpx files to see if that would work but it still associates gpx files with Basecamp uninstall.

Is there anything else for me to try?

Are you selecting the install/uninstall file for BaseCamp and not BaseCamp itself?  You want something like

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\BaseCamp\BaseCamp.exe"

Finally got it to work.

Running windows 10 I went into explorer found the basecamp application and ran compatibility troubleshooter. After that when I tried to open a gpx file using open with I got two options to choose from Garmin Basecamp and Basecamp Application. This time I associated the gpx files with Basecamp Application which wasn't an option previously and now all my gpx files open correctly.
