Well the obvious answer is to use a map that does as BaseCamp does support searches, but perhaps some error has occurred. Which map do you have selected? Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling BaseCamp?
used Revo to remove all traces of BaseCamp and reinstalled BaseCamp from fresh download.
same SmartDrive66 yesterday was working.
with the magic no-notice updates I don't know what or how anything changed.
tried every map on the list in BaseCamp - everyone reports "does not support address search"
using the DS66 unit itself finds everything.
this win Win11 - which forbids access to some system folders - might the magic updates have moved something to someplace Winn11 allows no app to use?
I am still on Win10 so unsure but if so this is the first report of it that I've seen. Can you confirm if you've installed maps to your PC or if you're accessing directly from your DS? If the latter try installing the map to your PC and see if that works. If not maybe try calling Product Support for help
it is a rather odd error message - since everything 'works as designed' on the DriveSmart itself, BaseCamp itself is suspect.
when I re-installed BC it copied the map files from the DS66.
looking at the install I find two separate sub-directories:
(ignore the leading hyphens - most fori delete leading blank spaces making 'formatting' impossible)

the 02/20/2022 is from the initial Win10 install
I upgraded the PC from Win10 to Win11, the 10/30/2022 is from the reinstall yesterday.
methinks I'll do another un-install, wipe out all \Garmin subdirs and start over.
between the uncontrolled LAN DS updating and uncontrolled Win11updating , , , something has gone wonky.
well, deleting all traces and fresh install does not work.
"run as administrator" does not work.
I'll dig an old version out my my back-ups, if that doesn't work it's tom-tom-time.
Win11 was not released last week - apparently the rumors that Garmin is dumping BaseCamp have some truth to it.
Note BaseCamp doesn't 'copy the map' from your device, it simply indexes it so it can use it. As I originally suggested, use Express and install the map to your PC for BaseCamp to use. Don't try and use the map stored on your device, see then if it works when you do searches.
Note too Garmin isn't dumping BaseCamp but like its predecessor MapSource there is no further development. MapSource is still available for download and BaseCamp is likely to be so for many years to come. BaseCamp's search function works on all my installed maps that have that feature, so something is wrong somewhere in your system.
well, I'm sure you know what you mean - but it's mud here.
I installed Garmin Expess - it finds the DS66
I found no option to download any maps to my pc - in Germin Express or BaseCamp.
if I downloaded them to my pc, where would I put them? and what maps do I download?
the SM66 has city maps, xx DEM, National Parks, etc etc.
downloading to the pc has never ever been necessary before. update BaseCamp, update Device, update maps - it all worked.
Run Express. Look under MapOptions. Choose Install to computer. You don't need to choose where to put the map, all done by Express. Means you don't have to connect your device every time you wish to use BaseCamp. If search then works it narrows the issue to your device.
no such option in Garmin Express I downloaded yesterday
Well unless you have never updated your map or you have a Travel Edition, a very limited specification, it will be there. See here and follow the Install map to computer only link support.garmin.com/.../
