Windows 11 versus default app.

I installed BaseCamp from Garmin.

I want to default the GPX extension to BaseCamp.

With Windows 10 it was possible, but since Windows 11 impossible.

In default application, set a value for a file type or a link type I don't see the .GPX extension

Also in app defaults, setting defaults for BaseCamp apps is not there.

In short, how to associate the GPS extension with BaseCamp by default

I'm not on windows 11, but another way to accomplish this is to right click on a file with the given extension and choose "Open With". Click on "more apps", scroll to the bottom of the list…

I'm not on windows 11, but another way to accomplish this is to right click on a file with the given extension and choose "Open With". Click on "more apps", scroll to the bottom of the list (chances are BaseCamp won't be one of the options) and choose "Look for another app on this pc".

BaseCamp.exe. is in the C: Programs (x86) >Garmin>BaseCamp folder.

Right-click on the file with the given extension and select "Open With." Select "more apps," scroll to the bottom of the list (there is a good chance BaseCamp will not be listed), and select "Find another app on this computer.".

All your answers are valid for windows 10. But since I installed windows 11 this method does not work.

Other things you could try are to right click on a gpx file and open the file properties and see if you can change it there. I quick search on windows 11 shows that there is a "show more options" when you right click on a file. You could see what that brings up. It appears this is a known issue in windows 11, so you may have to contact microsoft or google search for:

assign file extension to app in "windows 11"

to find a solution. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

That is strange. I work with W11, just updated to the latest build. And it works just as described here on my PC. Checked it for you just a couple of minutes ago.
I am able to associate .gpx with whatever app I want bij right clicking and select "open with"-> "more apps" -> "Find another app on this computer"

I'm on Windows 11 Pro 22H2

What version do you use?
