Uploading maps from Opentopomap.org to Basecamp

I found this webpage:

https://garmin.opentopomap.org/#morocco

You can download zipfiles containing maps per country, and apparently it's possible to view these maps in Basecamp. I would like to import the Morocco map, but I have no idea how to import these maps into Basecamp. Can anyone help me out?

I unzipped both zipfiles for Morocco to this folder:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Garmin

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Read the instructions on their webpage, you've put the files in the wrong folder

My bad, thanks.

I unzipped the files in the correct folder now (C:/ProgramData/Garmin/Maps/), started Basecamp again, but still I don't see these Morocco maps or any way to view them.

Should be selectable in the normal drop down box. Are you a new BaseCamp user?

Just to be clear: I have no Garmin or other GPS equipment, no hardware or software, I just have Basecamp installed on my Windows laptop. From what I understand, you should be able to upload the maps from the Garmin OpenTopoMap website to Basecamp and view the maps in Basecamp. Is that correct?

On the tool bar you should see a drop down menu showing Global Map. If your map is installed correctly, it should show up there. If you do not see the menu, go to View > Toolbars and check Map Products.

If you do not see your map you can try closing BaseCamp and restarting your computer.

You can't use the Opentopo Morocco maps this way. You need BaseCamp maps for that, but those are only available for Europe. The Morocco map is meant to be put on the device.

BaseCamp can use the map from the device, but when you want to use BaseCamp you will have to connect the device every time. There is a solution with a so called "virtual device": www.javawa.nl/virtualdevice.html

That's not what their website says but I haven't used their maps so was basing my replies on the OPs comments. If indeed all Opentopo do is supply a .img file then the OP will need to use either a physical removeable drive, eg memory stick or card, or follow your instructions and set up a virtual removeable drive.

Thanks for your replies, guys. I looked on the javawa website and downloaded Dekart Private Disk Light to create a virtual device, but for some reason I can't get that done. I am by no means a computer illiterate, but sometimes I really wonder why things are made so very difficult and complicated. Or maybe it's just me

I'm not sure if it will work anyway, even if I managed to create that virtual device on my laptop. On the OpenTopoMap website, for Morocco, you can download "Garmin" and "Garmin contours". When I download those, both folders contain just one file: otm-morocco (Garmin) and otm-morocco-contours (Garmin contours). The unzipped folders also contain just the one file. These files are called disc copy files. Not sure if that is the proper English term, but it is the literal translation of the Dutch name.

Yesterday I installed a map for Spain and Portugal from another website (https://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/garmin/en/more-countries.html) and that was quite straightforward. But the name of the unzipped folder had a .gmap extension (Freizeitkarte_ESP_PRT.gmap). Unfortunately there is no map for Morocco on this website.

You could try downloading the routable Africa North OSM map which includes Morocco: https://www.gmaptool.eu/en/content/africa-north-osm-topo-routable

Unpack the zip file on your HDD in a convenient folder and run the downloaded batch file to install it for use with BaseCamp via a symbolic link - instructions are provided.
