Custom Route that IGNORES way-points

Hi,

I have the latest build of Base Camp (v4.74) and a Garmin nuvi 3597 that is fully updated. I am trying to create multiple custom routes for my car from Point A to Point B taking the roads I want the route to follow, not what the GPS wants to do. This is an exercise in frustration, though.

I have tried making the routes using the GPS itself by creating way-points to force it to take the roads I want to take, but when I run the saved route it forces me to select each way-point (one at a time) along the way in order to navigate to the ultimate destination. Um, no.

Then I tried Base Camp. I created the custom route from Point A to Point B using the little pen to click points that would force my route. I then saved it to my device, but it does the same stupid thing... forces me to pick each way-point one at a time. Then I saved the route to my device and selected "Options/Device Transfer/Strip shaping points from routes on transfer to device", thinking that that would just go from A to B while passing seamlessly right through the way-points. No luck, I still have to select every way-point one at a time.

I called Garmin tech support, but all that guy was doing was typing my question into Google and reading whatever he found. He even said they get a lot of requests about doing exactly what I want to do!

You'd think with all the competition from cell phones that Garmin would try to implement such a simple task. I mean, turn OFF the GPS' recalculation of the current route and just follow the created route step by step, period.

Anyway, is there a known workaround to do what I want to do? Follow MY route turn-by-turn until I reach the destination without having to select each consecutive way-point along the route? I don't want to stop anywhere until I reach my destination and I don't want to select anything on the Garmin other than my route (start to finish)?

Thank you!

Bill
