Newbie questions

I am a newbie setting up a lengthy driving trip. I'm using a DriveSmart65 for this trip because Toyota is downgrading our built-in navi maps in the middle of our trip. I'm not yet attempting entering any hikes (other than to get us from hotel to trailhead)

A few questions:

Basecamp cannot find one of the hotels (nor its street address 50 W 200 N Cedar City UT). I've attempted to do a workaround, but it isn't the right solution. Should I attempt a lookup on the navi instead? Can I edit our itinerary as easily from the navi as from the computer?

Basecamp insists on keeping the first hotel destination as the name of the trip. I've entered a new name, which shows up next to the pushpin, but clicking on any day still shows "Trip to first hotel." How do I fix this?

For days when we have no specific plans, I've left the calendar blank. But our overall journey doesn't display on the map. I can only see segments that I click on in the calendar. Do I need to put something in each date...perhaps the name of the hotel?

Sounds like you're using trip Planner in BaseCamp. I don't use it preferring instead just to create individual routes for each day.

Correct. One of the reasons my husband chose the Garmin setup and the DriveSmart65 was its ability to create full itineraries. He gave up in frustration, so I'm attempting to work with it now. I will take a look at the tutorial link. Thanks very much!

I am a little late to this discussion but wish to say that I agree with SUSSAMB about creating individual routes instead of using Trip Planner in Basecamp however I have found Trip Planner to be useful as a pre-planning tool. Say you want to make multi-day, 3000 mile trip. You fire up Trip Planner, enter begin and end points, maybe some other parameters (like miles or riding time per day), and then let it create a route. The result can then be used as a guide for creating individual routes for each day of riding.
