I've created some maps in Caltopo of various areas in Colorado. The maps show towns, trailheads and camping areas we will drive to.
I want to get this information/data into my Drivesmart.
Has anyone done this?

Maps or routes? If maps its possible to create custom maps for some devices but not the DriveSmart series
Maps only. No routes. I had Basecamp create a driving route yesterday but only the end point would would transfer, but not the route. In any case for driving the route created is traffic-dependent.
Then see my initial reply. Routes should transfer without issue so if they aren't transferring you're doing something wrong.
Some more info as to what I'm doing.
1-create a map in Caltopo with points (no routes).
2-Import this info (ie. the points) into Basecamp.
3-Export from BC into the Drivesmart.
I have decided not to import actual routes because I don't know in advance where we will be when we decide to go to a specific point. We will choose the point and tap 'Go!".
Which brings me to another question. I will easily have 200 points. Is it possible to set up a directory tree (ie. folders) in Drivesmart? Say a hierarchy such as: Root - State - Region. Or will I be stuck with alphabetical order only?
Thanks for your replies. I appreciate it!
You can assign categories in BaseCamp. These will be transferred across to your device. Note you'll only see categories on your device once it has at least 12 favourites...
With my unit plugged into my PC I have dragged and dropped a .gpx file via the file manager into the GPX folder of my Drivesmart. The data was already organized into categories and the file was named, "San Juan.
Upon opening BC and viewing under my unit's "Internal Storage" the points are all in alphabetical order with no hierarchy. Ie. the folder structure did not transfer. Viewing directly on my Drivesmart (unplugged from my PC) the data is un- categorized.
Perhaps I should have created my categories (ie. List Folders and Lists) in BC first and then ensured that my data was sorted the way I wanted before copying into my unit.
Example:
List Folder = Colorado
Lists
Once that is done I can transfer it intact into my Drivesmart?
You need to assign categories in the Waypoint properties in BaseCamp.
You just saved me a lot of time. Thanks! I was going to set my WP's up into list folders and lists and attempt to transfer this over to the Drivesmart.
Once I have my WP's in BC I believe I will have to individually assign each one to a category. If several WP's are assigned the same category then they will be grouped under that category in my Drivesmart after I move them from BC to the device. Right? Now it's up to me to figure out what categories I want.
Last point, I assume it is not possible to set up sub-categories in my device like a directory tree. I can nevertheless use BC's directory tree capabilities (List folders and lists) to organize my WP's in BC.
You can block select and assign categories in BaseCamp. No need to do it individually. Sub categories unfortunately aren't allowed.
Ha! That was going to be my next question. Looks like I'm ready to go! Thanks again!
