I'm not sure what to do to update my maps. I still have NT on my device but don't have the original Mapsource disks which were lost. Is there any way to update my map. I think the lastest version I have is for 2009. Is there anything I can do?

Actually, the latest year I have on my device is for 2017. Have there been updates since then? I don't seem to be able to edit my original question.
You'll need to call Product Support. Since you haven't updated in years your subscription has probably been cancelled.
Why would it be cancelled? I paid for it, and it's transferrable. That would be an odd thing for them to do without contacting me. I paid for a lifetime membership in the Culver Legion in 1966 and guess what, I'm still a member!

Well, those were not the terms when I bought it. I could clearly transfer to any other device I purchased, so you're not dealing in good faith with me (which is no real shock since that's what I've come to expect from Garmin).
These have always been the Terms and Conditions since I starting using Garmin devices well over 10 years ago. Please note I'm not a Garmin employee. Call Product Support as I suggested, they are generally very good at helping with issues like this.
