Waypoints Garmin basecamp vs. connect

Hi guys,

at the moment, i'm testing the fenix 7.
And one question pops up.
I create a route in Garmin connect, the proximity alert are working fine.
Then i export this route.
Import the route in Garmin basecamp (create waypoints, set the proximity alert and include the waypoint in the route), the proximity alert are NOT working
I can see the waypoints in the map, but no alert pop up.
Did anyone has an idea why? What i'm doing wrong?

Best regards

Daniel

  • First, lets make sure we are talking about the same thing.  Garmin Connect does not support Waypoints (Definition).  Waypoints are a stand alone geo-location that are called "Saved Locations" on your fenix.  I believe you are speaking of Course Points that are indeed a geo-location, but embedded/linked to a specific course; as you describe with your Garmin Connect Course.  Your fenix will alert you when you arrive at a Course Point if you are navigating a Course that includes Course Points.  Confused yet?

Basecamp Waypoints are as I defined above.  A single geo-location not associated with a Course/Route/Track.  In Basecamp, you can set a proximity value, but that function seems to only work with legacy handheld devices.  My GPSMap 64 will alert me when I reach the proximity radius of a Waypoint set in Basecamp, but my fenix will not.  Fear not, if you want a Proximity Alert for a Waypoint/Saved Location on your fenix, you'll have to set up that feature on the watch for the activity (hiking, walking, etc.) you wish to be alerted.

    From the watch face:

    1. Long press the menu button
    2. Scroll down and select Activities & Apps
    3. Scroll to and select Activity you wish to be alerted
    4. Select the Activity Settings
    5. Scroll to and select Alerts
    6. Select Add New
    7. Scroll down and select Proximity
    8. Select Yes (Create New)
    9. Select from the list of Saved Locations (Waypoints)
    10. Select the radius from the Location to be alerted

Now each time you are recording that particular activity and you reach the programmed radius from the Location, your watch will alert you.  The watch will also alert you when you are leaving the radius from the Location.

  • Yes...you are right. Course points.
Thank you!!! Let me test this tomorrow morning :-)

Sound like i should use Garmin Connect in the future.
Because i planned my second Trekking Worldtrip.
One the first trip, i use the GPSMap for navigation.
It is not really comfortable to add the waypoints manually on the watch if i really often download tracks and add places for water and so on..
    But thank you again!!!!
