Alternate Mapping Database

As mentioned in another thread, there appears to be an option to use alternate mapping databases in Basecamp (Edit > Options > General > Database options)

Is it therefore possible to use OpenStreetMaps or Google Maps?

If so, how can I get these links into Basecamp?

That's for databases, not maps.

As SUSSAMB says, BC cannot use on-line map sources, but only maps in KMZ, JNX or IMG format. You can use a wide range of OSM-derived maps by either installing the map(s) into BaseCamp or downloading an IMG map file and putting it in a [SD]:\Garmin folder on a removable storage drive, which BC will read. I don't know for certain bit I assume it is everything that you create, which should be everything in the left pane of Basecamp.

The database contains your routes, tracks, waypoints etc. Everything you've created in or imported into BaseCamp while that database is selected.
