Cannot "Join Selected Tracks":

When I join 2 tracks, Basecamp will reorder the track sequence.  Here is a description:

Track 2 is the first track in the sequence

Track 1 is the 2nd track in the sequence

Track 2 was recorded 1 week after Track 1.

When I perform selected Track 2 then Track 1 and perform "Join Selected Tracks", Basecamp uses Track 1 as the 1st segment and connect from  Track 1 End to Track 2 Start.

Here is a picture of the results.  When joining the tracks, Basecamp is starting the new track at the start of Track 1 and finishing the track at the end of Track 2 and  you see the result as a straight line .

Any ideas how to join tracks of different dates likes this?

THank you!

  • BaseCamp joins tracks in the order you select them so select track 2 then use Ctrl+click to select the second track. If that for a reason I can't fathom isn't working for you then just delete the straight line portion.

  • I found a solution.  Unfortunately just deleting the straight line section doesnt work.  Ive found its a problem with the dates assigned to the coordinates.

In this case, the 1st segment was recorded after the 2nd segment and Basement wants to order the coordinates by date and my segments were out of date order.

In order to allow Basecamp to join the 2 tracks, I had to edit the date of the 50 or so coordinates of that 1st segment so they were dated before the 2nd segment.  I found a utility that allowed be to do a batch date change the .gpx dates and I changed the dates of the 1st segment prior to a few days prior to the dates of the 2nd segment and now Basecamp will happily "join" the tracks to create a new single long track.

In the above I only changed the day and kept the times unchanged.  I found several free .gpx utilities but most did not provide ability to batch edit except for on called "GPS Utility".  It provided a spreadsheet like presentation of the .gpx and I could copy a new date into all the coordinates.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
