Garmin crashes each time I plug in USB to transfer routes.

Hi, I am trying to load routes on Basecamp to my Garmin Etrex 30x, when I plug in my USB to the laptop, a message appears; " saving all waypoints routes and trip log in GPX format 100% complete" Then nothing happens; so I try to switch it off and get a beeping sound, or a continuous beep.  sometimes it crashes and I have to take out the battery. What on earth is going on here? I'm far from impressed with this unit to be honest. Had nothing but problems from day one but I'm stuck with it so advice appreciated!

    Well Googling the error message before posting would be a great way of you finding out.

    Your device is limited to 100 Custom Map JPEG images see: https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=UcO3cFueS12IwCnizrJjeA 

    So you either have too many KMZ Custom Map files, duplicate versions of Custom Map files either in Internal Storage or on the mSD card or both. You may have recently added another KMZ map or inserted a different mSD card containing KMZ maps that has taken you over the 100 limit.

    You need to check for any duplicate KMZ maps and delete these as I mentioned a few posts ago. Else you need to reduce the number of Custom maps by deleting one or more.

    The TopoActive map is europe 2021.2 Central. It is in the internal storage folder on the e trex unit.

    Double clicking on the SD card folder User data shows a long list of waypints, and the 2 walk mallorca maps. No sign of the TopoActive.

    Opening Garmin Express shows nothing, no " map deatils" or Map Options. I did a screenshot. I'll try and send it.

    Sorry for not googling error message I've just got weary of googling stuff and not getting anywhere!

    Europe 2021.2 Central is the  correct map for the UK. Does your Etrex read this map okay? (NB if you have a custom map for the same area, this may overlay the TopoActive map on the device).

    Where did you get the TopoActive maps from?

    Did you register your device and are you actually signed into Garmin Express? If you aren't, GE can't determine which maps you have purchased for the device.

    No it doesnt read the UK map. Just shows a blue arrow for location but no map under. Used to work fine until I started trying to load the mallorca maps and got all tangled up.

    I dont have a custom UK map overlaid.

    The maps came with the device brand new.

    Yes I registered it, Garmin Express knows my e mail and shows it as registered.

    I am tempted to reset everything and start again armed with what you have told me. Would this sound sensible?

    I think that either the map or the unlocking files must be corrupted somehow. Before doing a reset, I would remove the mSD card then put in a call to Garmin Product Support, who can check that your device has the both the mapset and the device correctly registered and can then walk you through the reinstallation process with Garmin Express.

    Hi

    Given the amount of time you have generously put into providing advice, I thought I'd keep the forum updated; so today I tried again and this time Garmin Express decided to show the " Maps" option. It certainly didnt do this on several previous attempts but I have no idea why!

    So I am currently reinstalling TopoActive 2021. Only bugbear is that it tells me it will take 17 hours! Still, its definitely progress, thanks again for all the help.
