Basecamp not loading good on Epix 2. City Nav. is sluggish/barely loading from epix 2 connect to PC

I HAVE An ORIG.EPIX AND IT WORKS PERFECT WITH BASECAMP WITH AN OLDER GARMIN CITY NAV. MAP. //

I then GOT THE EPIX 2, and purchased A NEW CITY NAV. 2021 MAP AND Garmin BIKE MAPS AND with the Epix gen2 and it is great on the wrist--very detailed on maps in fact! But, IT WILL BARELY LOAD AND STALLS THEN SPUTTERS TO WORK THEN STALLs in basecamp when connected to the Epix 2. I am not sure if it reads from the watch as it down loads the maps to my C drive I believe.

I have a new PC with fair gaming ability. Some of the things I tried: I have many maps on the epix 2, I probably could delete. The epix 2 maps copy to c drive/local...I reinstalled basecamp new and still the same. I took out old image files, and cleaned out all not used Garmin/basecamp files before reinstalling basecamp. No luck.

--Can I get a word on why the epix2 is so sluggish on my PC in the Basecamp program (app)? Thanks, This is a main feature I've used and need. ---I plug in the old Epix (using for years!) in, after anything..Works great. --I sent question to Gar. support. Have not heard back yet.

  • Sounds like BaseCamp is trying to read the map from your device, if so that may be the issue. BaseCamp doesn't automatically download a map from a device, what it does do is index the map on your device so it can read it from there.

    Unfortunately if you bought a map you cannot install it to your PC, that can only be done with maps pre-installed to devices. What you can do is copy the map from your Epix to a removeable drive, and BC will then read the map from there. This could be a physical drive, eg usb stick, or a virtual drive, see

  • SUSSAMB: I Willco. I was checking and got that imdiskinst working a day ago, but stopped short of adding a map. I'll open the Epix2 drive in windows / Devices and Drives. I see in watch:

    D46771801.img;
    D7249100A.img;
    gmapsupp.img;
    D4712040A.img;
    D77860501.img;
    D7753050A.img;
    D7725060A.img;
    D4727090A.img;
    D2471430A.img;
    D1399430A.img;
    D2419380A.img;
    gmapbmap.img;
    gmaptz.img.

    I'll take the gmapsupp.img as the one I'll copy for the City Explorer Map @ 3,850,368 KB. Or another if need be.

    Sounds good-Thanks.

  • Is there certain steps-stipulations to install the watch map to a flash drive? I installed it to the flash/removeable drive? I tried drag and drop. I know to put the map into a folder named Garmin on the flash drive. But, BC still will not read it. This is all epix 2. Any particulars. Thanks.

  • If you've moved the correct file then Basecamp should read it. Try running JaVaWa device manager to check the map is visible in Basecamp.

  • Thanks SUSSAMB.

    I've had some internet speed issues lately and so I have been using Garmin Connect-Express for course builds, then to the EPIX2; currently with no maps installed (maybe the base one). So I've been busy mapping with the watch map face-details blank but showing the streets accurately by way of just lines--very simple. Works [follows] well for me (and eye sight).  I'll try JaVaWa and double check stuff when I reinstall the TopoActive. thanks for the referral. I do have the option of using the old Epix plugged into USB along with the EPIX2 with City Streets too. Might try that too. But right now the no maps on the watch option, and then sending a lined course to the mapless EPIX is working amazing well for me for now. I did  a16 mile eBike run and overall worked great! Using all signal-sat. &ct capability for best accuracy in this lines only on watch for following the course.

  • Routes have arrows indicating direction --- is good! Now I wish the screen would stop going dim after 15 SEC. when using on bike handling bars.
