Hi I am new to this forum having recently purchased a Montana 700 My use is for hiking and cycling. I have spent a couple of weeks playing with routes and tracks in Basecamp and I think I must be missing something.
I have been able to create routes using the correct profile for road cycling, no problem. For a mixed trail and direct route walk I thought I had been clever in creating 2 routes for two profiles and combining them. All good so far. When I walked my route today I found my mistake. When walking I am lapt to go off route when the fancy takes me. I know realise that my 700 wants to keep directing back to regain my route and that ends up a mess. I guess I should expect it and would appreciate it whilst driving.
So my question. How do others tackle the problem of want a route on the display but not wanting to stick to it. As far as I can see with a track you cant control the map points like you can on a route so it is not possible to change points like you can with shaping and via points.
Is there a way of creating a track but still having alarms at critical points.
Sorry if I am missing something obvious but as I say I am new to this. I have put a lot of time into learning Basecamp but I am still confused on what is the best way if one exists to achieve what I want
