Problem importing gpx file to My Collection

Suddenly now, for no apparent reason, when I try to import a gpx file, created in OS Mapping, to My Collection in BaseCamp, it won't do it and I get message "Unknown error opening import file". Previously, always been able to transfer routes created in OS Maps to My Collection but now, for no apparent reason, it won't do it. What should I do to resolve the issue?

Hi, Had the same problem and it appears to be at the OS end. Have found that switching "Back to OS Maps Classic" at the top of the new OS Maps website and then exporting exactly the same routes works in…

This is exactly the method I used except that I am trying to upload to my device via the online app 'Garmin Connect', not Basecamp. I don't think the number of waypoints should be an issue as I have also tried with a couple of my own routes drawn on OS app (I too have a sub) and they didn't work either! I will give it a go using Basecamp. Thank you for your help.

I just tried importing the downloaded OS GPX into the online Connect app and got a "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again." error, presumably the same as you?

I then imported the same file into the web app nakarte.me: https://nakarte.me/#m=9/50.81669/-3.85620&l=O/Gbt and re-exported it to my laptop and this file uploaded into Connect okay - so this is worth a try.

Just read that for a .gpx file to successfully upload to Garmin Connect, the file must include time: information. https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=j3epr66mmJ0V26Yq0SO6IA

The OS GPX trackpoints all lack time data, whereas nakarte adds track points each with a default time of 1970-01-01T00:00:01.000. This might be the explanation?

GPS Visualizer lets you add fake timestamps. Click the "advanced options" at the bottom.

I will give that a go thank you. Yes I was just analysing a GPX file exported from my Garmin Edge Explore on a text editor. The OS output file saves each waypoint thus: <wpt lat="50.3674850" lon="-4.1511948"/> After conversion using GPS Visualiser, the points are converted to a more 'Garmin type" format: <trkpt lat="50.3681334" lon="-4.1550399"></trkpt> but as you say, no time signature. In the file output from my Garmin Edge Explore each point has far more info: <trkpt lat="50.79729228280484676361083984375" lon="-0.6948954798281192779541015625">

I tried copying the header from this file and plonking it into the GPS Visualiser version but still won't upload. As you say, the missing time stamp may well be the problem. Or at least one of them!

<wpt> are waypoints: these shouldn't need timestamps.

<trkpt> are points in a track. Tracks have direction (indicated by the timestamp).

What device are you trying to load it to?

Are trying to get waypoints to your device or a track/course?

Can you attach the file here (you might need to zip it)?

Thank you - all useful info. Didn't try the advanced option on GPS Visualiser but have now had SUCCESS! using https://nakarte.me as suggested by Eyelet99. Will try gotoes also when I get a moment.

Hi. Many thanks for your suggestions. I have now had success using https://nakarte.me as suggested above. Although half the file is still in <wpt> format, the second half is in <trkpt> format with the added timestamp. Haven't checked if the waypoint data is duplicated but it has uploaded OK via Garmin Connect at long last.

Success at long last using https://nakarte.me. Many thanks for your help and suggestions. All I need to do now is modify the start of the route as we'll be setting off from Plymouth railway station, not the 'official' start of the Sustains route. That should be pretty straightforward!
