Practical process for downloading Birdseye imagery

Trying to figure out how to make this process easier when downloading imagery. It's frustrating to have to break up my chosen area for imagery into separate files for the GPS unit. Makes if really impractical when hiking across the imagery lines.

First of all, how is the data size limit established when I choose an area of the map to download in BC? I find that sometimes I choose an area too large and it gets rejected. Sometimes I'll use that imagery directly in BaseCamp on my PC, so I don't understand why there would be a file size limit. And if I choose my GPS for the device then does it determine how much space is left on my memory card? I don't see where I can actually tell BC to directly download the imagery to the memory card. Am I correct in that I initially download the imagery to my PC, then choose to transfer that to the memory card?

If I do have to start over with the map selection then is there an easy way to modify my existing selection rather than starting over with the selection process? It just seem so hit and miss with the selection process when I have to go back and forth and start from scratch each time it tells me that there's a limit.

Thanks for any insight into these problems.

  • I will refer to the superior quality of the images. The maximum size for each download in rectangular selection is approximately 230Mb. Free selection is approximately 100Mb. And the service is very slow and Garmin could at least increase the download delivery rate, even with a connection speed of 500Mb/s.
