Zumo XT set routs dont follow the road.

When I plan a rout in base camp for my Zumo XT in BaseCamp they follow the road as required but once the rout is loaded into the Zumo the rout is straight lines away from the road I want to follow. These are designated roads not off-road tracks. This is very frustrating and distracting when riding a motorbike. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • I don’t know any more if the problems I have are with the Zumo XT or BaseCamp. I find that I overcome one problem and another arises. After sorting out the map problem I now find that when I attempted to either drag and drop or transfer a rout I set for our ride on Monday into the SD card I now get an error message saying that there is a problem communicating with the memory card. Because I need the rout for Monday I inserted the trip into the internal storage only when I went into the device to load it I was informed that there were more than 29 via points and the rout had to be split. Nothing is simple with this bloody thing. I tried to remove some of the via points and it distorted the rout into straight lines not following the roads and also removed a considerable amount of the rout. This was going to be a reasonably complicated ride and without those via points the rout is useless. I formatted the SD card and one other rout went on it OK but after that nothing. I apologise again if I am being a boor but all I want to do is ride my bike into some of these regions that I have no knowledge without directions. Regards Allen

  • Like all modern Garmin devices you are limited to 29 via points but you really shouldn't need that many. You can have hundreds of shaping points. Only use via points where it's necessary, eg a lunch or fuel stop. To change points to shaping points open the route properties, right click the viapoint and select Do not alert on arrival.

You can get detailed advice on all of this on the forum I mentioned as there are experts there on the Zumos.
