POI problem with map installed to PC.

I have a Zumo XT so wasn't able to install the most recent City_Navigator_North_America_NT_2022_10 map until I found a rider willing to let me add his 590 to my Garmin Express.  The resulting map appears to have a POI index problem because when using the Find feature many of the categories and subcategories are missing when using the map on the PC that are there when I use the same map on the device.  Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

  • I have just discovered that the  POI problem only exists when I am the logged-in computer user.  When I run Basecamp logged in as ADMIN the POI subcategories are available.  I elevated by user level to administration but the problem remains so it seems to be associated with the user data stored by Basecamp for user me.  Does that give anyone a clue about how to fix?

Does anyone know where Basecamp stores all of the user data or more specifically, which files hold this data?

  • User data is in Alldata.gdb but POIs are part of the map data.

  • There is something more about POIs than the map data.  Understand that my problem isn't that the POIs aren't there it's that when I do a Find, some categories and subcategories are missing.  For haha's I added another user to my PC and test Basecamp as that user.  The problem remained.  The only times it works properly is when the map from the device is being used OR. and this it the confusing part, Basecamp is run by an administrator, either logged in as the admin or via "run as administrator".  It's important to note here the elevating my user to an admin and then running Basecamp doesn't solve the problem.  It definitely appears to be a PC user specific problem.  It's the same map data accessed by all PC users right?

  • This has happened in the past.  I might be wrong, but I think the solution was to delete the ProductDataCache folder under C:\users\"username"\AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp.  BaseCamp will have to be closed when you delete the folder.  Restart BaseCamp and give it time to rebuild the folder.

Keep in mind that I may be mistaken, so it would be a good idea to back things up in case things go wrong.  You may find an answer on some other forum if you google something like "BaseCamp missing poi categories"..

  • Thanks BTLAAKE.  A web search I had done hit on a 5 year old post that indicated a software problem that was to be fixed.  I'll do some more searching and my try your suggestion if I get brave (desperate) enough.

Does anyone know whether the device needs to be connected for a rebuild of ProductDataCache?

I wonder if I could replace the ProductDataCache folder content with the content in the one for the Admin user.  Hmmm.....

  • I have compared the contents of the ProductDataCache folders for user Admin and me and they contain the same files.  The timestamps are slightly different but the file names and sizes are the same.  I don't see anything here that indicates this folder is the source of the problem.

  • I'm not sure you can draw that conclusion without knowledge of the contents/format of the files in that folder.  There will be a file for each map product and the names will necessarily be the same in both locations.  Size isn't a guarantee that the file contents are exactly the same.  Nor can one be sure that the contents should be the same without the knowledge mentioned above.

I assume you are referring to categories in the search/find function.  Here is a thread I found in the forum that might address this issue.

  • THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  The solution identified in that discussion resolved my POI category problem.
