basecamp with RV 785 crash when connected

I have two garmin devices that work well with basecamp. Now I bought RV 785 and when I connect it with basecamp it crash and close the program. What can I do ?

I tried to instal the last basecamp version and it's the same.

What can I do ?

Thanks a lo

  • This was happening with the new Zumo XT and was caused by a corrupt sample speed camera file. Try deleting/removing any cyclops sample camera files in the POI folder on your device.

  • Hi Sussamb, thanks a lot. I followed your info and now the basecamp  software is running well with Garmn camper 785.

  • I just received the RV 785 and am having the same problem with BaseCamp crashing if the 785 is attached. I removed the cyclops sample camera file from the POI folder but the problem still exists. I've sent the BaseCamp crash report. Any suggests on how to make this work?

I am trying to get a .gpx file to show up on the RV 785. Simply putting it into the GPX folder did not make it show up in the 'Trip Planner'. In fact, I created and saved a Trip in Trip Planner and I don't see where it is saved on the Internal Storage.

  • I don't have your model but trips generally show in the Trip Planner app. If a gpx file that you've placed in the GPX folder isn't showing it's possibly not a valid gpx file.

Where did you get it from? If it's a track it's not valid, it must be a route. Try importing it into BaseCamp and check what it is. If a track, convert it to a route, export it as a gpx file and put that in the GPX folder

  • Thanks! While my Mac version of BaseCamp does not have an easy way to convert a track to a route, it did show that I had only track data in my .gpx file. So I created a new route from scratch in BaseCamp, saved as a .gpx, copied it to the Garmin RV 785 GPX folder, rebooted the Garmin and the route showed up as a Saved Trip. So a correct .gpx file can be copied onto the Garmin 785. I still have the problem that BaseCamp crashes if the RV 785 is plugged in. I'll try BaseCamp on a Windows machine and see if things work better.
