Issue with very long lines on Basecamp

Difficult to tell exactly what's happening from your screenshots but normally lines like that would be caused by those points being part of a route when you selected a map that doesn't route to those particular points so has to select a point that is nearest then draws a straight line to the point.  If they only appear when you connect your GPS the data creating them must be there, when you hover your mouse over the lines you should see an indication of what the data is.

Thanks for the reply. How would I delete them and stop them in the future? I want the lines when I'm walking the forest but not the long lines between times I turn it on and off. 

You have to stop recording and save the activity on the device when you are finished with your walk.

This has nothing to do with BaseCamp.

You are just not using the device correctly.

BaseCamp should delete them. If not they are probably in GPX/Archive on your device 

Note that you can split tracks and delete points in BaseCamp. In this case, you probably would split the track before deleting the odd points.

The tracks are files on the device. They might be in \Garmin\GPS on your device. So, you can delete them like any other file.

BaseCamp should display the tracks on your device. You can delete them that way too.

Yeah I try to delete them and it works but when I plug it back in another day they reappear. I will look more in depth  thanks 

Use the file explorer program on your PC to delete them from the plugged-in device (it's just a USB drive).

When I check the actual GPS it says no archived tracks. I'm going to connect the GPD to my laptop this afternoon and try to figure it out

The long lines are avoided by clearing the Current Track log at point where you wish to start recording and then saving the Current Track log when you reach the end point.

It looks like you recorded over multiple days and/or turned your device on and off multiple times.  If you saved any of your tracks without removing them from the Current Track log, then they will exist both as a saved track and in the Current Track Log.  If you want to keep any of your tracks download them to a blank list for editing.

Try clearing the Current Track log with your device and delete any/all unwanted tracks via the Track Manager.

The eraser tool can be used to remove the point(s) causing the long lines.  The selection tool (arrow)  with delete will also work.
