Red "Ps" appeared!

Does anyone know what the red "Ps" are that have appeared in the left hand column on Basecamp under internal storage?  I have just updated and they have appeared.  Thanks.

  • The red "P"s are simply the symbols generally used by users to identify Parking Waypoints, but I do not recognise the numbering scheme.

Are the waypoints where you expect them to be but just have the unexpected (P) symbol?

Please can you explain where these Waypoints came from or if they were recorded on your GPSMap66? Also what do you mean by "just updated" - do you mean the recent firmware update to 7.2?

  • They seem to have just appeared out of nowhere.!  Some seem to be places I haven't been to with my GPS!  I never seen them before today.  Certainly not recorded on my GPS by me.   Yes - have just done latest update that came up on screen - I presume it was Firmware. Thank you Eyelet.   PS.  Have booked for Lake District, with my dog in May, - so having great fun practising doing all the routes and looking up easy walks to do!  I should be an expert with my GPS by the time I come back!

  • For you to see them on your device storage in BC they must have been loaded onto your GPSr at some point. They seem to be located in an area of interest in Surrey and the two shown on the map are aligned on the Long Walk Track.

Would it be possible that you have uploaded a route or a set of waypoints or a GPX file to your GPSr sometime in the past - that section of map seemed to match with one the Fancy Free Walks (e.g. The Clandons and Hatchlands Park)?

The most likely explanation I can think of is that you uploaded someone's GPX file for a walk (perhaps by WiFi?) which contained these waypoints (perhaps they liked red "P"s!) along with a track or a route that you were interested in.

The 7-digit numbering suggests that they were generated automatically by another mapping application making a set of waypoints for someone's walk. If you don't need them then just delete them using BaseCamp or on the device using the Waypoint Manager

Glad to hear you will be venturing north to the Lakes - it's usually lovely in May.

  • They look like parking waypoints that are sometimes added to geocaches.  I thing the.P0 is probably their parking code and the remaining characters refer to a geocache ID (i.e. replace the P0 with GC to get geocache code).

  • Ahh!  I did manage to pair my device recently with my I Phone and I have done geocaching so that must be it! Thank u!
