Category vs Collection

I created a collection, with a directory and imported my waypoints (2000), this work fine, then export to PC, and save on SD card of my Camper 780. At the end I have a file called "Waypoints.gpx" on the SD card. I can send the collection, the directory or the list but at hte end there is not catagory on the device when I try to find a category, just i ound my list inside the "registered".

What is the role of collection ? if not craetinf a new category ?

If I import and save  3 differents list at the end they will be in a same list on the device ?

Thank for your help understanding the basecamp and device behavior.

    If you want them to appear as categories on your device you need to change the category in the waypoint properties in BaseCamp. Lists etc don't create categories on your device.

    Note categories won't display until you have a certain number of waypoints installed on your device, normally at least 12.

    fine ! It is same process than for the icon (you explained this on another thread), I didn't see category before, so it is correct method if instrument manage it, I have 2300 WPT to convert it will take time. But finaly they will be changed into BC.

    after sending to the device : (if i delete the old ones) : if I check on the device, the local GPX directory containts currentwpt.gpx and GPX directory on sd card contains waypoint.gpx.

    On the device running, the only place where is the new category is inside the "trip planner" and "saved", but not in "trip planner"  + category, or elsewhere. It is as explained by the doc...

    At the end my waypoints are inside a saved category so now i can add other category, but this category don't go with the system category list.

    Note if you have lots that you want to place in the same category you can block select them using the normal Windows keys, so shift + click or control + click.

    Then open the selection by right clicking it and selecting Open then the categories tab ...

    Selection is ok, Ctrl1 works. Now I have limitation trouble : max 1000 !

    this software is not very stable, i have to delete the files on the device, the alert for 1000 WPT was not seen before, strange behaviour !

    I find BaseCamp very stable. As for the waypoint limited pretty much every Garmin device is limited to 1000 waypoints, just as there are limits for number of routes etc. If you have a large number you can use POI Loader and convert them to POIs

    Finaly, I found , the response in previous post from SUSSAMB.  DC is writing without control I think. So to be sure DC write correctly on the device, you need to erase the GPX files using explorer (local and sd) + erase waypoints inside the "saved" place, when all that is done, you can send data to device.

    Also I see the 1000 POI limitation when copying to device local mem , but not when copying to SDcard mem.

    At the End, I found my 2 categories in the "saved" place, and there is 3500 POI total.

    merci. You help me a lot. I thing the trouble is to understand interaction between device and DC. I just remember that GPS never delete POI when adding others...
