How are track log archives stored on my eTrex 32x?

I recently upgraded from an eTrex Summit HCx to the eTrex 32x.  The Summit would allow me to save the track logs automatically to the microSD card and created them, one per day, with the filename containing the date.  I'm not seeing the same configuration with the 32x.  I have the auto-archive turned on.  I was used to copying the daily track from my Summit to a folder that I stored pictures taken on that day.  I'd like to do the same with the 32x but it is not obvious to me from reading the manual and posts about the archive function how I can do the same thing.

Does the archive feature only create archive files when the track log is full?  What's the naming convention?  How does Basecamp handle it all if I can't find a way to copy a daily track log directly from the microSD to my pictures folder by day?

Thanks in advance.  Stay safe, stay well.

  • Just save the current track each day.

  • Archive options on handheld devices are found under Menu > Setup > Tracks.  If you do not see it, look for any sub-menus there - something like advanced settings.  I don't make use of the feature, so I can't say how files are named or where they are stored on your device.  Archived tracks on my handheld are stored on the device in a folder named Archive.

  • Problem with the auto archive is that it's not done daily, which I think is what the OP wants, but hopefully saving the current track will do what he wants.

  • Thanks for the replies so far.  Doesn't sound like I have a definitive answer yet on how the 32x handles this or where the files are located.  I will have to use it more and see if folders and files show up.  Right now I only know that the current track is in the subfolder Current.  I don't see an Archive folder.

The eTrex Summit made me lazy I guess.  I'm not sure I will remember to save the track at the end of each day during a week-long backpacking trip.

  • Well the track will auto save but only up to 10,000 points, after that it'll start to overwrite at the beginning.   Depending on how far you walk per day that may be enough, depending on how frequently you set the track to record a point. That track can then be loaded into BaseCamp and split into days if you wanted to. However I too do multi-day walks and you soon get into the habit of saving the track at the end of each day Slight smile
