Can't turn off Global Map roads being displayed

Hi all. When I'm viewing my map in order to plan routes I can't stop the rough innacurate major roads from the Global Map being displayed. That's fine for when I know the roads and can easily disregard the global map duplicate road, but will quickly become a nightmare when I don't know which is the correct road! How can I switch off the overview roads please?

Here's a screenshot. Here there are two M5 motorways and two A419 major roads shown. One is the real accurate road, the other is a rough interpretation from the Global Map.

Running Basecap ver 4.7.3 with a European BMW Nav6

Thank you!

Rich

  • What happens if you zoom in?

It's possible that the basemap is being used at large scale to make drawing the screen faster.

  • There have been infrequent reports of this before. Theoretically it shouldn't happen as BaseCamp can only display one map at once, but clearly occasionally it does. Never saw anyone post a solution.  Out of interest which map is loaded on your device, and do you have a map installed to your PC for BaseCamp to use or are you reading it from your device?  If so try using Express to install the map to your PC to see if that changes things.

  • Evening gents, and thanks very much for the suggestions. As it happens I think I've found out what the problem was.

When I installed Basecamp with Garmin Express, I decided to put the map downloads from the device to a different folder- I wanted to put them on my D drive rather than the default C drive- my SSD... I wanted to reduce the amount of data going onto the C drive. So running Basecamp, I suspect it was taking the detailed map data from the device itself rather than the local copy. Not sure why it was taking both the Global basic map as well as the device map concurrently, but there we go. At no time was I trying to access the maps without the device connected so I wouldn't have spotted that the maps weren't being served locally- and I can't see anything obvious to point the map 'browser' to a different location- they're either found or they're not.

I uninstalled everything and started again- this time choosing the default location for the downloaded maps onto the C drive. Firing up Basecamp this time shows just the correct map without the Global outline roads. All good now (and the learning begins!).

    Thanks for your help

    Rich.
