BaseCamp 4.7.3 - Problems renaming Lists, invalid date character "/" work around for Windows 10

I've been fighting with this issue for several versions of BaseCamp under Windows 10

I'm currently using BaseCamp 4.7.3 on Windows 10 with a Montana 600 using firmware 7.60

When importing data into BaseCamp from my Montana (Device->Receive from Device), the names of the received lists have the date displayed in the format of MM/DD/YYYY (as an example 1/5/2021 for today).

This works ok until I want to rename a list. Often after I receive my data, I want to rename it by appending some useful text such as the name of the location where I was located or the activity I was involved in. To do this I right click on the list name and simply add text such as "State Park hiking" or "Mountain trails grooming". The problem is I would then receive an error message from BaseCamp stating that I can't use the "/" character in the list name, and I would have to re-enter the date into a different format.

This shouldn't happen! Especially if BaseCamp originally imported the data and saved it in this format directly from my Montana.

As an example of the name of a list as imported into BaseCamp directly from my Montana is "12/24/2020 10:41:22 AM"

Trying to append text to this list and rename it to: "12/24/2020 10:41:22 AM Trail Grooming" returns the following error message:

"The name for this item cannot contain any of the following characters: \ /  : * ? / < > |"

I found a work around, but I still believe that BaseCamp is in error and should either allow for the "/" character to be used in the date format, or it should not import data in this format which contains the 'illegal' character '/'.

The work around is to make a change to the Windows 10 "Short date" format

To make this change, in your Windows search bar, type the word "date" and then select "Change the current date and time formats".

Then for the "Short date" select Short date format such as 2017-04-05.  Being in the USA, mine was previously set to "4/5/2017".

After changing this Windows Short date format to "2017-04-05", close and restart BaseCamp.

Now any imports from my Montana have lists which are displayed in the chosen short date format e.g.:"2021-01-05 10:31:14 AM" and I can edit them to append text without having to re-enter the date manually!

Yes. this workaround solves the issue. but it's my opinion that BaseCamp should be changed to allow the '/' character to be a valid character when editing the name of a list! After all, all the original automatically imported tracks already had this character in the date, so why is it an illegal character?

Asking users to change their "Short date format" in Windows changes how the entire operating system looks and feels and is an ugly work around.

Please, let's not get into a debate here as to which is the best format to use in Windows. I understand there are regional differences in how dates are formatted and why some are superior to others.

I tried to submit a bug report to Garmin on this, but I don't know if it was understood as I haven't seen a reply from them. Does anyone here know how to get Garmin to look into this?
