Windows 10  BaseCamp 4.7.3

I have been using base camp for the last few weeks planning my summer travel which will consist of 4 or 5 legs with about 10 waypoints per leg. Often (1 in 3 times) base camp will not close. A message pops up asking if I want to wait for the program to close or to have Windows close the program. Even waiting a long-time base camp will not close. If I have Windows close the program, I believe (but I am not 100% sure) that base camp does not save the waypoints or routes that I have added.

I have the program installed on my C drive, but save the database to my F drive.

Any suggestions?

  • If you've tried to close the program immediately after sending data to your F drive it could still be sending data as you're trying to close it so the program could stall. If it's not that all I can suggest is an uninstall then reinstall of BaseCamp to see if that fixes it.

  • Having had this issue some years ago with a much earlier version of BaseCamp used with a GPS Map62, I found that after transferring tracks to my device, ejecting the card before the device, then the device seemed to cure it. It sometimes takes a couple of minutes but BC does close okay.  I always do this now with my 66st and BC 4.7.3. Sometimes ejecting the card will also eject the device depending on what you have been doing.

My basecamp is not sending data, but I have the same problem, plus when I get windows to force its shutdown, then when I try a re-launch windows will not let it launch, as it believes another copy of basecamp is already running. The workaround involves re-starting windows completely. Then it asks me if I want to rebuild lists when I do basecamp re-launch.

If I do an uninstall and re-install of basecamp, will I lose all my routes that are stored in my collection in the software?

The problem has been supposedly reported to windows, each time it occurs, and that is a lot of times!

Seems to be something the software developers of Garmin ought to fix ?

This occurs whether I have my Garmin etrex touch 25 connected or not, and whether or not it is disconnected during a session with basecamp.

  • No, an uninstall and reinstall doesn't delete your data or any maps you've installed.  Doesn't sound like a Garmin issue to me, more likely if Windows is wanting to send errors that it's a system error somewhere.
