Basecamp VERY slow

I'm on a very powerful PC, I've downloaded maps from my Garmin Zumo XT to a m.2 via garmin express, yet basecamp is beyond slow loading maps. I'm 100% sure only using the maps via the device.

Is there any detailed guides online how to use this awful software? Seriously tempted to return this thing because Basecamp is so horrible to use.

What's a m.2?

I have numerous maps, around 10, running in BaseCamp and don't see any slowness unless you have map detail set to highest. I do my initial planning etc using detail set to medium, and only select highest detail when necessary. If you're new to BaseCamp work your way through this tutorial
