Restore data from Alldata.dgb

Hi All,

Last questions on this are quote old already.

But my windows setup crashed. I re-installed everyting, and have kept all my data.

However; there does not seem to be a way to get the BaseCamp db back online.

I have salvaged the whole 4.7 folder. Including the AllData.dgb, FolderData.gfi and TrackSegments.

When i copy these to the db folder; i get the following message.

However; it doesn't seem to accept the files. Is there any new tooling i'm missing?

Any other solutions i haven't thought of?

Sorry, your screenshot is blurred so I don't know what it says. First thing to check. Is BaseCamp using the correct folder or is it using a different one? It's quite easy to confuse where the data has to go. Open and close BaseCamp which will time stamp AllData.gdb

Does the AllData.gdb in the folder you copied now have an up to date time stamp? If not do a search for Alldata.gdb and find the one that does have an up to date time stamp, that is where your data needs to go.

My apologies for the vague screenshot.

It says "Cannot load following regions:

Listdatafile"

If that's the right translation.

Folder looks as follows:

C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\BaseCamp\Database\4.7

The files i've restored are:

Weirdly enough these dates are a bit old, but could be the last edit date, as i don't use it a lot.

Somethings wrong there, if I understand you correctly the bottom screenshot is your restored BaseCamp data? If so and you've opened and closed BaseCamp then it's not using that data base as the date/time stamp isn't being updated. You need to go into Edit, Options and change the default database so that it points at your data.

What I tried is to close basecamp. Overwrite the freshly created files (screenshot 1) with the files I recovered.

Then at first start, I get the error message, and it clears out the whole folder. Back to situation of screenshot 1.

I can try to create a secondary db.

So; i've tried:

- Created second database
- Switched to second database
- Switched back to standard database
- Closed BaseCamp
- Overwritten the second database with my restored files
- Opened BaseCamp
- Switched to second database

Same error :X

Ok, let's try this. The key files to load your data are AllData.gdb and FolderData.gfi

The first contains your routes etc and the second your folder structure. Create a new database and copy those two files into that database folder. Do you now at least see your data?

Have you tried File > Import in BaseCamp and browse to the Alldata.gdb file or try a renamed bak version in case the original is corrupt?

Alternatively click on the AllData.gdb file, right click Properties and go to Open With and select BaseCamp from the Program Files folder - see https://vimeo.com/98856867

You won’t get your folder structure back, but that is less effort to recreate.

if that doesn’t work, you could try opening it with Garmin Mapsource which is also supposed to open .gdb files.

One last thought. BC2GE is a very useful utility that facilitates loading tracks, waypoints and routes from Basecamp into Google Earth. BC2GE also opens .gdb files and plots/lists the contents in GE. So this may be a way of accessing data in the Alldata.gdb file. Groups of tracks can be selected and exported from GE as KML or KMZ files and then imported into BC to help rebuild a folder structure..
