basecamp and google earth and street view

I am using Basecamp 4.6.2 on Windows 10 with Google Earth Pro 7.1.8.3036 (32-bits).

Is it just me or 'street view' in Google Earth Pro 7.1.8.3036 no longer works?

This is not a basecamp question per say, however, I am asking here because many basecamp users may still use the old version of Google Earth Pro and I was wondering if this problem is with my machine or for everyone.

  • Yes, I get an error message when trying Street view in 7.1.8.3036.

  • Yes, I too have just discovered this.  I've posted a sticky at the top of this forum.

  • Thanks  for confirming the situation.  I kind of knew this was going to happen one day, so, I will bite the bullet and upgrade Basecamp and Google Earth Pro to latest levels and learn how to use BC2GE as you have suggested.   Thanks for researching this.

You can close this 'ticket' with my thanks.

  • OK, now that there is no longer a direct link from BaseCamp to Google Earth, is there any reason not to upgrade BaseCamp to the latest version as well?

  • The direct link from BaseCamp 4.6.2 to Google Earth pro 7.1.8.3036 still works, it's the Street View in Google Earth pro 7.1.8.3036 that does not work anymore.  If you do not need street view, then, you do not need to upgrade anything for the time being.

  • I use Street View frequently, and for me, that's more important to me than the direct link.  So I upgraded to the latest GE and I'm trying out BC2GE as a work around.  It's not as easy as the direct link, but usable.

I do recall reading that there were map install issues with later versions of BaseCamp in addition to losing the direct link to GE.  Now that the direct link to GE is no longer an issue for me, my concern is if the latest upgrade version of BaseCamp has any other issues I should be aware of.

  • Unless 4.6.2 isn't doing what you want I'd stick with it. I've lost track of what didn't work with the later updates and the latest may all be good but I'm not going to risk it.
