. Route file storage location

I am using Basecamp / BMW Navigator V

If I create a route and download it to the device internal memory, it is detected on startup and runs fine, but load it to the data card and it detects OK but the "import" command generates "ERROR cannot save (route name) "

What am I doing wrong?

Not much space left in the internal memory so prefer user data on the data card.

Basecamp can find find and run the route regardless of storage location.

Also, how do I uninstall outdated maps?

  • Last question first, what maps are outdated that you want to uninstall and are you talking about on your device or BaseCamp?

First question I have no idea, I assume other data on the card works okay? Routes take up very little space so in any case putting them on internal memory shouldn't be a problem. You may get better help on this forum www.zumouserforums.co.uk/ where there are more Zumo/Nav owners

Firstly thanks for the prompt response.

The map I refer to is the New Zealand Open Source Project. I think you are probably aware of it but just in case, it is a free, self routing map that is basically assembled and frequently updated by its users. It is better on back country stuff than City Navigator but lacks all the commercial info. It's on my device.

Obviously I can update my copy as often as i like and my problem is that all copies have the same name on the device and so i struggle to figure out which one to delete. I suppose i could just delete the existing copy before updating and the issue would go away.

As for route storage locations, I knew that routes were small files and frankly, I don't compose routes very often. However, a friend and i do long trips (2 months) overseas from time to time and he typically works out the routes beforehand. So with maybe 2 routes per day, he gives me a card with maybe 80+ routes on it. I usually just make sure they are in an appropriate folder and drop the card into my GPS. I have never had issues importing from the card before.

Yes,  my current card has other data (e.g. maps) on it and all appears to be OK, so I guess faulty media is unlikely, but I will check anyway thank you.

Lastly, thanks for the UK reference. i appreciate the help.

  • That would work, delete the map prior to installing the new one, or just look at the time/date stamps. While the Zumo forum is hosted in UK it has members from all over the world so worth asking about your route issue there.
