City Navigator Europe NTU 2021.1 does not load entirely in BaseCamp

Dear all

Yesterday I've updated Garmin Express and the City Navigator Europe map on my Zümo 595 to the latest version mentioned in the title of this thread.

However, when I open BaseCamp, the City Navigator Europe map only loads partially: a light blue line on the map indicates that only the South of Europe is available on detail level. This disables me to create routes etc. in all other European countries.

The device has a vast amount of free internal memory (6 out of 14 Gigabyte) and the map seems to work fine on the device itself. In the map options, I see that all diffrerent components of the map are present (Foursquare, North, South,...).

The bug seems to occur when linking the device to BaseCamp.

I've already reinstalled both Garmin Express and Basecamp and the map on my devicve, but the error persists.

Does anyone know how I can correctly transfer the whole of  City Navigator Europe NTU 2021.1 from my device to BaseCamp?

  • The full EU map is so large it has been split into two on your device as it can only handle files up to 4Gb.  You don't notice this on your device as it seamlessly moves from one to the other but BaseCamp can only show one map at a time.  If you're only seeing the South part you're either reading the map from your device or you've only installed the South part to BaseCamp, the latter is unlikely as Express wouldn't offer that option when installing to your PC.  The solution is to use Express to install the map to your PC, as that is installed as one map, not split into North and South, as there is no 4Gb file limit on your PC.

    Thank you for your swift and detailed reply. So far, I've always been working (without any issues) on the map of my device in Basecamp, in order to avoid sync issues between BaseCamp and the Zümo. But if installing the map on my pc would solve all the issues, I am willing to adapt my method. :-)

    I have two further questions in that regard: 

    - In case I keep working on the map of my device, my local Garmin dealer explained that Basecamp allows to switch between the different splits using the 'Map tools' function in the toolbar. However, this toolbar does not show any of the splits, it just refers to the general 'City Navigator Europe NTU 2021.1' (of which it only shows the southern part). Could you please confirm whether there is any possibility to switch between the different splits in Basecamp, using the map of the device?

    - Installing the map on my PC would indeed solve all of the above issues. However, Garmin Express does not show me the option to install the map on my computer (maybe because everything's been updated?). According to the support section of the Garmin website, this option ought to be provided in the Map details > Map options menu. But in the latest version of Garmin Express that I've downloaded (version 7.1.4.0), there's only a choice between 'Change Map' or 'Reinstall Map' and both function immediately proceed to the actions they describe, without giving me the opportunity to select a download to both computer and device. Do you know how I can install the updated map on my pc in that case?

  • I've not heard of the suggestion the Garmin dealer made to you, and I'm not able to check it right now.  In any case that sounds like a real fudge when the correct solution is available via Express, or at least it should be!

    My options are Reinstall map or Install map to computer, which is what you should see.  The fact it's showing change map indicates you may have the Travel Edition version? Do you? If so regrettably that doesn't allow you to install the map to your computer.

    Thanks for your prompt reply! Indeed, good guess: I have the Travel Edition of the zümo 595! :-)

    My older device - the 590 - has allowed me to install the map on my computer, which helps me temporarily to work with my zümo 595.

    It remains rather odd though why I am unable to read the entire map from my device in Basecamp. Until the last update (the day before yesterday), I've always been able to do so. I'll reach out to the dealer to check whether they're able to advise me on this issue.

  • It's probably only now your map has been split into two, once that happens you're a bit stuck because only one map can be selected at any one time in BaseCamp.  If you've been able to install the map from another device you should be fine.
