Basecamp, do Tracks always have to be converted to a route to be saved on device?

I have a Drivetrack 71 and when I use Tracks to draw an off-road route in Basecamp, all is good and Basecamp saves it. However, when I send that same track from Basecamp to my device it looks like it gets saved (green check mark lights up) but when I disconnect device that track is nowhere to be found on it. So do I always have to convert tracks to a route in order for it to be saved to my device?... I'm just looking for the easiest way to save off-road 4x4 dirt road directions to my Drivetrack 71.

After scanning the entire DriveTrack 71 manual from Garmin, I can find nowhere it even mentions tracks. (other than LiveTrack- but that is different),

That unit may not recognize or be compatible with imported tracks.

I almost never use any of my 'nuvi' type Garmin units as they have fallen way behind in capability and reliability.

Tracks aren't recognised by many Garmin On the road units, Zumos being the exception, so atlas_cached may be right and the DriveTrack just doesn't do tracks. This also suggests it doesn't do tracks forums.gpsreview.net/.../the-drivetrack-71-garmin-s-coolest-model-you-ve-never-heard-of
