RV 780 current.gpx corrupt

I just purchased an RV780 and when I hook it up to basecamp it gives me an error message that it cannot read current.gpx.  So I deleted current.gpx and restarted the navigator.  It immediately gives me the error again.  It appears the navigator is corrupting the file.  The navigator works fine but I cannot upload any of its data to basecamp.  Which  pretty much makes the navigator useless to me.

  • Call product Support, they can arrange for the device to be replaced, or return it to where you bought it.  Before you do it may be worth master resetting the device to see if the issue still occurs.

  • This occurs with many newer devices released after BaseCamp development was completed.

Exchanging the device will not resolve the issue, the problem lies within BaseCamp and how the device firmware writes some files to internal memory.

Do be sure you are always running the most current firmware in your RV780.

  • Well there is an issue with some devices on Macs but as far as I know not with Windows, indeed Garmin specifically suggest using Windows for the RV780, see this FAQ support.garmin.com/.../

Note too the steps you can try to resolve the corrupt file message, although I note you appear to have tried this, hence my suggestion to swap the device:

If there is a corrupt file on the device, the Windows version of BaseCamp also displays the error "An error occurred while reading the following file(s)", indicating which file is corrupt.

To resolve this error, delete the corrupt file indicated:

    1. Press Windows + E
    2. Click This PC (Windows 10 only)
    3. Open the Garmin drive
    4. Open the Garmin folder (not all devices require this step)
    5. Open the GPX, JNX (or BirdsEye), or JPG folder
    6. Delete the file indicated from the error in BaseCamp

This should resolve the issue. If the issue persists, verify that the Garmin device is communicating with Windows applications correctly. Instructions for verifying that the device is communicating properly can be found in Related Content.

After deleting the corrupt file or files, BaseCamp will not display the communication error.

  • I frequently see the 'corrupt GPX' warning using BaseCamp on windows....

I suspect something has changed in the 'GarminDevice.xml' file on every Garmin GPSr as well as new data types (extensions) being included in the GPX files that BaseCamp is not yet aware of. I know similar issues have been resolved via firmware updates on some newer devices.

  • Thank you for the replies and the help.  I reset the navigator and it fixed the problem.  So far no more issues.

  • Great, I'll close this thread.
