Basecamp upgrade to 4.7.2 lost tracks & imagery

My recent Basecamp upgrade to 4.7.2 resulted in it losing almost all of my Library collection. Whilst it is easy enough to reconstruct my tracks from the original GPX files, the Birdseye aerial photography less so, as it was derived from within Basecamp whilst I had a Birdseye subscription.

A bit of hunting and I found the location of all the aerial photography files:-

  • C:\Users\john\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\BaseCamp\JnxFiles

and yet more copies in a cache:-

  • C:\Users\john\AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp\DeviceCache\feab38fe-29e5-41a7-9953-a09dc77956c6

So how to get Basecamp to recognise them?

    An upgrade doesn't delete data. What it may do is alter where BaseCamp looks for the database if a previous version wasn't using the default location. If you can't remember where your database is then do a search for Alldata.gdb and point BaseCamp at those you find, one of them will be the database you used in the pre-update version

    I found the databases in:-
    C:\Users\john\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\BaseCamp\Database\4.7

    Attempting retrieval now.
    There were 3 database folders present for 4.5 / 4.6 and 4.7, in the default location, so the update did indeed ignore the 4.6 database.

    Okay, I got it to point to the old 4.6, and all my tracks returned, but there was a warning on the way in to say that it could not find the imagery and should I let it fix it.  I clicked yes, and after a minute it all came up, but no imagery.

    I suspect that may be because your subscription has expired.

    Yes it expired, but all the imagery I paid for has been present for at least a year without dropping off the radar until this 'upgrade' process.
    I'd certainly like to have it back.

    Yes, just checked on that, it's been a while since I used BirdsEye, it should still be viewable in BaseCamp, you just can't transfer it to your device after the subscription expires.

    My jnx files are listed in a folder in BaseCamp, so you should be able to connect your device and then copy the files from your device into a folder/list in BaseCamp

    I paid for it, should be able to keep it.  I understand not getting new imagery, but denying me access to what I already paid is a little excessive.  Anyway, I found the practical use for it is very limited so I cancelled the subscription.

    To clarify - the JNX files are already on the laptop, perhaps a couple on the Montana.  So you are saying I can copy them one way from the Montana to Basecamp, but not the other way?

    Yes, you should be able to do that.  I also have them on a memory stick and I've just copied one from there into BaseCamp successfully.

    So manually copying them across to the Montana and having the Montana 'see' them should be okay?
