max size of gpx file

I have within BaseCamp a list of 49782 items in the same collection. I can save it as a *.gdb file without problem but not as a *.gpx file. The system requires me to reduce the size of the list. But that does not suit my needs. Is there something that can be done to increase the max size of a *.gpx & other file that can be saved?

I didn't realise there was a limit, what 'system' requires you to reduce it?

Having said that large gpx files can take a long time to load, why are you wanting such a large file?

The system I'm talking about is BaseCamp. Whenever I try to export my collection I get a message stating "there was a problem exporting your file because the file was too large..." This does not occur if I export the file as a *.gdb file. It also seems that if the *.gpx file cannot be created then a *.kml file cannot be created too. This *.gpx file could be created until recently when there was no more that about +/- 48000 items. This file does not take that long to load max 2 min. But there was a file nameley the *.csv file that took ages to create over 12 hr. Btw I don't know what is the use of the *.csv file because I don't know of a system that can open it not even Basecamp if I try to open this created *.csv file within Basecamp it is not possible or may be it'll take over 12 hr.The *.gdb file can be open within Mapsource but not the *.gpx file "file's too large". The gpx file is convenient because it is a text file and it can be more easily edited with a text editor. An example of the the *.gdb file is available here:

Well if BaseCamp is telling you the file is too large then you'll need to reduce it, what are you trying to do as there may be alternatives that would help you?

Never mind but I find it strange that I can create the *.gdb file but not the *.gpx file. The only way would be to split the data within several files but that's not very convenient. This issue was already there with Mapsource.

I've found the solution, that is to use GPSBabel app to convert the gdb file into a gpx file. Works alright. Basecamp isn't really a finished app.

Out of curiosity, what are you using nearly 50K waypoints in a single GPX file for? Most Garmin GPSr will only index a few hundred or thousand, with the max being 10K waypoints on the GPSMAP 66 series. If this GPX were loaded to a Garmin GPSr, most of the data would never be indexed....

Many Garmin GPSs can have nearly limitless number of Custom POIs. I currently have about 175,000 on my Zumo. I generally create my POI files using Basecamp and have no problem exporting them.

Yes the issue is not on the GPS side but on the Basecamp side.
