Error importing GPX files generated by MapMyDrive app

I'm using the app Map My Drive on my iPhone to track routes in real-time. This app generates GPX files. When I try to import a GPX file generated by Map My Drive into BaseCamp, I get an error message stating, "Unknown error opening import file." Other apps and sites that import GPX files, e.g. https://gpx-viewer.com/, are able to read the GPX files generated by this app.

I'm using BaseCamp 4.7.2 on Windows 10.

  • Garmin BaseCamp is quite strict and sticks to the correct gpx format, some others don't care too much, so that will probably be the issue.  I don't use gpx-viewer.com but if it has an export function too you could try exporting the file from there and see if BC will then accept it.

I did a bit of poking around and figured out the issue. The GPX file generated by MapMyDrive does not specify an xmlns property in the gpx element at the top of the file. If I manually paste a value in there, BaseCamp is able to read the file properly.

I'm not sure if BaseCamp is being too strict in its handling of GPX files, but regardless I will pass this information to the developer of MapMyDrive.
