Just getting started with my Montana 680t and I'm really at a loss as to why i spent 500$ on a GPS that cant perform a basic routing request on fairly common dirt roads. Is there an efficient way to create offroad routes? Am i missing something?

Which map are you using? BaseCamp can only route along roads that are routeable on the map, your Montana is the same.
Yes i do realize that because i am using the 100K topo this seems to be the limitation. Im just very surprised/dissapointed. The best solution i have found is to create a route by clicking along the roads. Is this the case?
Given the map isn't routeable then that is the only way. There are lots of free and freely available maps available, just search for OSM maps for Garmin, many are routeable. Personally though I've never found a map that will route the way I want to walk so always create routes by using Direct activity.
Ok, this is helpful. Ive downloaded two routeable Topo maps from GMapTool. I extracted them and ran the batch file but Basemap does not see them. Perhaps you can help me or point me towards a forum that explains this process?
Some maps don't have the relavent flag set for them to be seen. Use JaVaWA's GMTK program to set them visible to BC
