How to print a map true to scale in Basecamp? can I print the map at its actual scale eg 1:25000?

Hello, I've noticed some years old posts with people asking this question, but no helpful answer, is this possible?

  • Well there's no way to select the scale for printing, so it's bit trial and error I'm afraid.  If I ever need it 'close to scale' I snip it as a jpg file then adjust the file in a third party program.

Right thanks, that is a shame as it would make it alot more powerful, especially being able to print double scale, is "snip" a tool or is that a screenshot, by trial an error do you mean printing off at different settings till the grids match the right scale? I guess the manipulation has to be equal in both x and y axis.

  • Snip tool comes with Win 10, paste the jpeg into a word doc and adjust the scale, that's what I do. Others may have better ideas.

  • The printing in BaseCamp seems to be designed to literally paste sheets together to create a map.  Start by setting/finding the zoom level in  BaseCamp screen that comes closest to your desired printed scale.  What you see on the screen will end up centered in the final printing.  This is the zoom level you will always use to print a map for that scale.  You need to use the Actual Size setting.when printing the map.

The actual area printed is adjusted in the Page Set-up of the print dialog, Increase the number of rows and columns to expand the area printed (remember, what's visible on  the BaseCamp map will in the center).  You can probably tweak the scale by adjusting the scaling for the printer.

As an example, try setting your Zoom scale to 300m, click on print, choose Actual Size and under Page Setup choose 2 columns and 2 rows.  This should give you 4 printed pages which can be laid out to create a single map.

I am using outdooractive.com for that purpose and upload my gpx file. Depending on the length of the track you have various scale options.
