BaseCamp help

After searching a number of postings in the Basecamp Windows section of this forum, I have reached the following conclusion:

1) Garmin BaseCamp is virtually flawless.

2) The many, MANY problems reported by users are strictly due to the mistakes of the user.

Yes, I'm being sarcastic. Sadly, this forum offers little help. YouTube and other outlets have been far more helpful.

  • If you ask a question you would get some help but this forum isn't a manual for BaseCamp.  You can use the Help section within BaseCamp or alternatively this is a useful start www.newenglandriders.org/.../Learn_BaseCamp.htm

I have though used BaseCamp for many years to plan national and international travel, both in car and on foot, and have no problem using it.

  • I'm not the self-appointed defender of this group or of sussamb, but I must say that my experience is completely the opposite of what you report. Any time - and there have been several times - I've asked for help, I've received it quickly and in detail. I don't believe that it is unreasonable to be asked to provide more than "is basecamp crap" when asking for help.

I'm not knowledgeable enough in BC to reply to people's request for help, but I did look onto your profile to see what questions you have asked that have not been answered. I couldn't find any, but that may be because I don't have necessary privileges.

I would humbly suggest that, if you pose a question, with enough detail for those in the know to reply, they will do so.

    Oh, yes!

Five years back, I had trouble connecting my then new nuvi 65 LMT to my PC. I made several calls to Garmin support: They kept handing me on from one department to the other: customer service, technical support, software and finally hardware. They could not resolve it. They sent me a new unit. Same problem. They sent me yet another replacement unit. Same problem. I gave up and wrote to this forum. The issue was resolved in 24 hours.

The person who fixed it for me said that it was because the units were shipped out in MTP mode and that they had to changed to Mass Storage mode to interact with a PC. I followed the detailed instructions and everything was solved. I still have a file  with the reply saved in case I need it in the future.

Opening it, I find that the date I posted on the forum asking for help was 22 Apr 2015.

The person who replied with the fix: SUSSAMB!!!!

    So! I could be sarcastic too .... but I shan't :-)
