Basecamp and remove shading

Is it possible to remove shading from Basecamp? I've been used to reading papermaps for years and find shaded areas in regions really confusing.  I've changed contour line setting settings, but it's the shading I want to get rid of. From everything I've researched so far, it's a Garmin based option, it can be turned on and off on a GPS unit, I just cant find anywhere in Basecamp to make the change.  It must be possible if a GPS has the option, I just don't know where.

Thanks in advance,
Iain

  • You should see a Show overlays button bottom left on the map pane, click the down arrow and choose hide overlays.   That may work but as you don't say which map you have I can't be sure.

Just because your research indicates it can be turned on and off on a GPS doesn't necessarily mean it can be done in BaseCamp, on a device you can choose more than one map to display, in BaseCamp you can only choose one.

Hi! thanks for taking the time to get back to me. I've tried the overlays button but that doesn't make any difference on the maps that I'm viewing.  I'm using mapping from TalkyToaster which includes the DEM data. Martin from TalkyToaster has very kindly created a new mapset for me without the DEM data included which will hopefully remov the shading so I'm going to see how that looks, the only concern I have is that without that data I won't get elevation data and won't get the graph that shows the height gains throughout the the walk.  Any other suggestion would be welcomed.
